In Loving Memory of Ruth Hall

Ruth Hall, a devoted woman of faith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished friend to many, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 14, 2025, a little over one month shy of her 101st birthday. Her life was a shining testament to her deep love for God, her unwavering prayer life, and her gift for teaching His Word to everyone she met.

Born September 19, 1924, during the Depression era, Ruth learned early the value of perseverance, gratitude, and finding blessings in every circumstance. She carried those lessons throughout her life, waking before dawn each day to pray faithfully for her family, friends, missionaries she supported, and even those she had only just met. She was known for “always knowing everything about everyone” — not for gossip, but so she could pray for them by name and with purpose.

Ruth attended Wheaton College in Chicago, Illinois, graduating with a degree in Spanish. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Bill Hall. They shared more than 60 years together until his passing in 2011. They built a life rooted in faith, service, and love.

She taught in countless ways throughout her life through Bible studies, Released Time classes in the St. Paul School District, Sunday school classes, and through her daily example of living God’s truth. Ruth’s love for hymns and scripture was unshakable; she had a verse ready for every situation and a heart ready to share it. She was a faithful presence in “the back row at church,” worshipping her Lord with her whole heart.

Ruth found joy in God’s creation, especially in trees. She saw them as a reflection of His glory. She delighted in the simple pleasures of life: making her famous strawberry jam and applesauce (a family favorite), hosting her annual Christmas devotional and menorah lighting, enjoying a shrimp cocktail, playing Rummikub and Skip-Bo with her grandchildren, and reciting her favorite poems, including “Trees.” Her gentle scratch on the back could bring comfort in any storm, and her words, always filled with love and God’s truth, could soothe the soul.

Her memory was as sharp as her wit, her prayers as constant as her faith. She leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, joy, generosity, and steadfast devotion to the Lord — a legacy that will live on in the lives of all who knew her.

Though she will be deeply missed, we rejoice knowing she is now in the presence of the Savior she loved so dearly.

Ruth is survived by her three sons, Ken, Jim (Connie), and Ron (Shelly). Her six grandchildren, Shawn (Mike), Marlene (Jeremy), Brian, Dan (Ani), Stephanie (Tim), and Kristi (Luke). Her eleven great-grandchildren, Jack, Mitch, Jude, Silas, Jett, Juliana, River, Penelope, Etta, Reggie, and Lenora. Her spiritual legacy continues on.

A service will be held at First Evangelical Free Church of Maplewood on Thursday, August 21st with a 9AM visitation and 10:30AM funeral. Breakfast refreshments will be served during the visitation and fellowship time prior to the funeral as the family will leave directly after the service for a private burial ceremony at Fort Snelling. Memorials are preferred to First Evangelical Free Church of Maplewood.
