Barbara Roberts

Barbara Kruger Suggs Chadwick Roberts passed peacefully on August 14, 2025. Born on November 8, 1940, to Frederick William and Dorothy Kruger in Charlotte, NC, her brother Dick, now deceased, was so excited about the addition to the family, he charged admission to see her come home from the hospital! She graduated from Central High School in Charlotte. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Richard Kruger, a half-brother, William Kruger and is survived by a half-sister, Martha Lynn Herzing of Maryland.

Barbara worked at Safe Drivers Club and later became one of the first Certified Professional Legal Secretaries in NC. She worked at Irvin, Horack, Snepp & McCartha for most of her professional career.

In the 80’s, she met the love of her life, married, retired and moved to Lexington, SC where she lived on Lake Murray through her final days. She was the widow of Verdy Eugene Roberts, a Past Potentate of the Jamil Shrine Temple in Columbia, SC. Together they participated in and supported the Shriners’ Hospital of Greenville, SC, where Gene served on the Board of Directors. Barbara was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jamil Shrine, continuing after Gene’s death.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Thompson’s Funeral Home in Lexington, SC. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
