Calvin Leon Jackson, III
November 18th, 1957 - August 11th, 2025
Calvin Leon Jackson, III, Columbia, SC, formerly of Sandy Springs, GA, was born on November 18, 1957, in Detroit, MI to parents Calvin L. Jackson, Jr. and Annie L. Mixon Jackson. Calvin the eldest of four siblings, was baptized in the Catholic tradition and died on August 11, 2025.
He grew up in Long Island, NY and graduated from Half Hollow Hills High School in Dix Hills, NY. Calvin served his country in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge.
Though he worked in Atlanta as a hairstylist and interior decorator, his real passion was art.
Calvin was a gifted, self-taught visual artist. But in mid-life, he lost his core vision to Stargardt Disease. Blindness did not deter him. He adjusted to his circumstances and as a visually impaired person, created his most recognized artwork. The notable B. D. Jeffries, Interior Decorator in Atlanta GA, commissioned and represented his work.
Calvin's biological father Calvin Jackson, Jr., his beloved stepfather Walter Thompson, and stepsister Penny Thompson preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories, mother, Annie Thompson, sisters, Denise Jackson, Siobhan Auguste (Durand), brother, D. Keith Jackson (Vanessa), beloved nieces, Charis, Solanna, and Adrienne Jackson, (all of Anderson, SC), brother, Michael Jackson, Charlotte NC, stepbrothers Dennis Thompson, Columbia SC and Michael Thompson (Lori), CA, stepsister Roslyn Thompson, Baltimore, MD and many relatives and friends, especially Vivian and Elizabeth.
