Herbert Ray Miller was born on September 5th, 1931, in Washington, IN, the first child of Herbert and Glenn (Stafford) Miller, and while residing in Centennial, CO, he went home to be with his Savior on August 15, 2025, at the age of 93. He had four brothers and a sister who completed their family of faith, love, laughter, and music.

Ray joined the Navy in 1950 and served in the storeroom of the USS Oriskany. His service took him to Alameda, CA where he saw his future bride at a church service. He told his fellow shipmate that he was going to take her picture because she was so beautiful. He captured her picture, but she captured his heart.

On June 15th, 1952, Ray married Romona (Grissom). They were blessed with two daughters, Denise and Debbie. They were also blessed by a shared love for the Lord and both had servant’s hearts, and they began their ministry together after he graduated from college, then seminary, Ray as a pastor and Romona gracefully wearing the many hats of a pastor’s wife.

Ray and Romona went on to love on congregations in Alameda, CA, Scottsburg, IN, and Redwood City, Orland, and Oakland, CA. Their love for serving the Lord and showing His love to others outgrew the walls of a church and they heeded the call to camping ministry at Sierra Pines Baptist Camp and Redwood Glen Baptist Camp.

They retired from active ministry in 1995, but old ministers never retire, they just go out to pastor. Ray continued to serve God in churches in Alameda, CA, and Aurora, Parker, and Centennial, CO.

The number of hearts touched by Ray from coast to coast cannot be counted. Neither can the number of people who do not share his blood but still call him Dad and Grandpa. He was known by many names including: Ray; Brother; Dad; Grandpa; Bapa; Grandpa Ray; Uncle Ray; Rev. Miller; Bro. Miller; Bro. Ray; Pastor Miller; Pastor Ray; Mr. Ray…

Ray is preceded in death by his beautiful bride, Romona, his parents, his brother Don, and many beloved brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. Ray leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, led by his siblings, Jerry Miller, Larry Miller, and Ken and Kay Miller of Columbus, IN, Janet and Mike Dyer of Seymour, IN, Lynn Miller of Sonora, CA and Gwen Fowler of Tomball, TX, his children, Denise and Curt Miller of Centennial, CO, and Debbie Miller of Aurora, CO, his grandchildren, Amber Miller, Tim Hurtgen, Ryan Huckaby, and Jodi and Josh Strawn of Aurora, CO, Jeremy Miller of Centennial, CO, and Danica Huckaby of Dallas, TX, his great grandchildren, Ben Strawn and Abby Strawn of Aurora, CO, and numerous nephews and nieces from sea to shining sea.

Ray will be greatly missed but knowing that he is dancing on the streets of gold and waiting to hug each one of us when our time comes, brings a peace and comfort that only comes from knowing Ray’s Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A service will be held at Colorado Community Church at 14000 E Jewell Ave, Aurora, CO 80015, on September 4, 2025, at 4pm. He will be inurned at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
