Albert (Al) Thomas Griego, 78
Our esteemed Brother, Uncle and Friend, passed away August 17, 2025. He entered this world on December 28,1946 in Jerome, Az, born to Charley C. Griego and Frances Roybal Griego. He was preceded in death by both parents, brothers, Charlie Griego and Arthur Griego, sisters Paulina Snyder and Marie Contreras. Al is survived by brother Andy Griego of Albuquerque, NM, sisters, Frances (George) Flores of Albuquerque, NM and Linda (Mark) Martinez of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by his adored nieces, nephews and cousins.
Al lived in Albuquerque, NM until he graduated from The University of New Mexico, 1969, with a degree in Education.
Prior to embarking on his career in teaching, Al was drafted into the United States Army and deployed to Vietnam from 1970 to 1972. Upon his return home, he relocated to Huntington Beach, California and commenced his long-held aspiration to become an educator.
Al, dedicated educator, served 32 years at diverse high schools across Southern California when he retired in 2003. After retiring, he remained engaged in tutoring Spanish to students and volunteering at St. Mary's By The Sea Catholic Church, where he served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
His unwavering faith and profound devotion to God brought him immense joy.
Al will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends!
Services will be at St. Mary's By The Sea Roman Catholic Church, 321 10th Street, Huntington Beach, California on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Rosary will begin at 10.00am followed by Mass starting at 10:30am. Interment will be at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetary in Santa Fe, NM.
