Colan Douglas Long, 88, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior after a short stay at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point on Saturday, August 23, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Doug was born on September 27, 1936, in Colfax, NC to the late Lindo Jerome and Margaret Ellis Long. He graduated from Kernersville High School, Mars Hill University, Wake Forest University, Auburn University and finally Southern Wesleyan University. Doug received two master's degrees and two years into his PhD degree. He was a professional student, always wanting to learn more and study new things.

Doug began his career at Celanese Corporation as a Research Chemist. After years of traveling, he decided to go back to school and get his master's degree in education. He served as Dean of Greenville Technical College for many years, as well as receiving his Real Estate License and Insurance License because there was a need to teach/license new agents in the state. Doug has licensed many individuals over the years in both fields.

Doug finished his career at Guilford Technical Community College as the Department Head of Real Estate and Insurance. He retired in 2000.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by three daughters, Melissa, Fara and Allison.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Cheryl Trexler Long and his immediate family; daughter, Talitha Long Sumner (Scottie); sons, Joshua Douglas Long (Emma) and John Christopher Long (Leslie); seven grandchildren, Easton Sumner, Sawyer Sumner, Brinson Long, Sunny Long, Payton Long, Bailey Long, and Carter Long.

Doug also leaves behind nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren from a previous marriage as well as many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church, 119 N Bunker Hill Rd, Colfax, NC 27235 on Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 10:00AM-11:00AM.  A Celebration of Life service will follow beginning at 11:00AM with Pastor Todd Reynolds, Pastor Phil Kirkman, and Rev. Kim Fowler officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Shady Grove Wesleyan Children's Ministry.

Friends and family may sign the guestbook online at www.piercejeffersonfh.com
