In loving memory of Alan:

Alan Charles Langston was born on January 9, 1945, in Northome, Minnesota, and passed away from effects of metastasized prostate cancer in Fort Collins, CO, on August 23, 2025, after a life marked by resilience, hard work, and faith. He was the youngest of seven children of Perry Carl Langston and Vivien Frances Daly and entered the world shortly after his father's untimely passing. In the face of the family’s hardship, the values of perseverance, practical skills, and strong family ties were firmly instilled through his childhood.

Alan graduated from Northome High School in 1963 and worked various jobs for about three years before earning certifications in electronic programming at Western Business University, Oregon. Once drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968, he served with distinction in the 85th Field Artillery Detachment and in other units to which he was assigned. While in the 85th, he was stationed at the NATO air base and Pershing-missile site near Geilenkirchen, West Germany, and was designated as the NCO in charge of the cryptographic section and its classified-documentation management. Though his service lasted just under three years, he attained the National Defense Medal, sharpshooter badge for M-14 and M-16 rifles, his highest rank of sergeant, and an honorable discharge.

After his military service, Alan built a successful career as an electrician for over thirty years at the Oregon City paper mill, under Publishers Paper Company and Smurfit Newsprint Corp. His contributions to improvements, maintenance, and innovations of the equipment and processes helped save the company millions, and products from his efforts were distributed both nationally and internationally.

In 1973, he married Betty Rohrs, and together they had one child, Jennifer. His fondest memories were of the times he spent with family, friends, and nature, though history books, travel, and piloting his Cessna 172 were also very much enjoyed. Some of his loved ones’ most unforgettable occasions were the adventures and pastimes with him: everything from fishing and road trips to BBQs and playing cards.

For much of his life, Alan felt grateful to his mother, other family members, and mentors who invested into his formative years, and most of all to the Lord, Who made his salvation, victories, and blessings possible. He was inspired by Isaiah 55:6-11 in how it affected his own life and wanted others to also share in those blessings that come through the Word of God. This led him to facilitate the dispersion of thousands of Bibles, especially during his retirement.

Despite his gradual health decline, Alan faced his final years with gratitude. He is remembered for his love of God, family, and country and for the many lives he touched through his hospitality and faith. Alan’s legacy endures in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He is survived by Betty Langston; Jennifer Grant; step-daughter Rhonda Mathis; sisters Evelyn Krueth, Carol Lockard, and Claire Spohnholtz; grandchildren Angele McKloy, Benjamin Carlson, and Lauren Brock; and many more great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones. His interment will be on August 29, 2025 at Cheyenne National Cemetery.
