Madeline Ann Iverson
May 29th, 1942 - July 20th, 2025
Madeline Ann Iverson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on May 29, 1942, Madeline lived a life filled with love, curiosity, laughter, and deep connections to those around her. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Michael Nesmith, who passed in November 2021. Together, Madeline and Mike built a life rich with adventure, joy, and hospitality. Their love story was one of shared journeys—both on the road and through the countless friendships they nurtured across the world. Madeline is survived by her children: David Iverson (Tympani), Mark Iverson (Raquel), and Heather Nesmith (Jamie Saguindel); her cherished grandchildren: Alyssa Iverson, Lyra Iverson, Kai Saguindel, and Parker Iverson; and her beloved dogs, Gracie and Buddy, who never left her side. Madeline was well loved and admired by all who knew her. She never met a stranger, instead greeting each person as a potential friend. A true collector of people, her warmth and generosity drew others in, and her circle of friends extended across the globe. Many of them found a second home with Madeline and Mike, whether at their much-loved retreat in Maine or their home in Monterey, California. For many years, Madeline taught English at Piedmont Hills High School, where she inspired students not only to read and write, but to think deeply and discover their own voices. After her early retirement, she and Mike embraced a life of travel and togetherness, splitting their time between Maine and California and taking long cross-country drives filled with visits to family and friends. They also shared a passion for exploring Europe, returning time and again to their favorite places. Madeline’s legacy is one of love, hospitality, and joy. She will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, her ability to make others feel seen and valued, and the deep bonds she built with family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have crossed her path. Her family and friends will carry her memory forward with gratitude and love.
