Thomas H Curtis age 97 passed away at home, July 11, 2025.

He was born in Meridian, Idaho April 18, 1928 to Josiah Curtis and Anna Barker Curtis.

The family moved to Montour, Idaho, when he was 2 he and went on to University of Idaho in Moscow, ID, graduating in 1950, the same year he married Dorothy Moulton and started his career with the USDA working for the Soil Conservation Service, a career lasting nearly 40 years.

His first job in his career was in Choteau, MT then to Kalispell, MT where his first of 4 children was born, then Shoshone, ID; Twin Falls, ID; Elko, NV; Salem, OR; back to Boise, ID; ending his career in Portland, OR in 1986.

Dad was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, berry picking, skiing and his work. He knew the geology and history of the places he lived and traveled and helped protect these earthly gifts. As a member of Power Squadron, a group that educates boaters, safety of the waterways and aids Coast Guard as needed, he served as Commodore for a period. His final years, having lived through 2 wives, Dad volunteered at the local food bank in support of his community.

Dad loved music, he was involved in band and choirs his entire life and enjoyed many instruments especially his banjo in later life. We had family singing around the piano especially at Christmas, but other occasions as well, with 4 part harmonies (Dad was a bass). He loved poetry and often recited some of our family favorites, then later sharing weekly poems with us. Other joys were bridge groups with friends depending on where we were living at the time, and later, square dancing with Mom. He loved games which could include everyone and many family members remember “I Doubt It” and “Hand and Foot”, enjoyed by kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews…

He could fix anything and was very proud of his shop and tools; he built a band saw while at U of I, as part of his well equipped shop.

Dad had 4 children from 1951 to 1962: Stan (Cody (deceased) and Ann), Ann Hunt (PJ), Guy (Irene), Louise Magarrell (Michael) and later: 11 grand children and 9 greatgrand children. He is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, his younger son Guy of 42 years, his daughter-in-law Cody, and his 2nd wife of 9 years Ceva.

The world will never be the same and he certainly contributed to making it a better one. We miss you, Dad.
