Nicholas "Nick" Delmaine Lewis
April 2nd, 1943 - August 21st, 2025
Nicholas “Nick” Delmaine Lewis, 82 Passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on August 21st, 2025. Born on April 2nd, 1943, in Colorado to Delno Nicholas Lewis and Betty Lee Lewis. Nicholas lived a life marked by dedication, service and love for his family. After graduating from high school, Nick proudly served his country as a U.S Marine from May 1962 to May 1968. During his service, he earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the National Defence Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal, achieving the rank of Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge. Following his military service, Nick built a long career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked faithfully for 25 years before retiring. Beyond his work, Nick had a passion for history and was an avid collector. A true cowboy enthusiast, he often shared that if he could do it all over again, he would have loved to become an American history teacher. Nick married the love of his life, Wanda Lee Hoffner, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Their marriage was a true partnership, grounded in faith, respect and commitment.
Family was the heart of Nick’s world. He took great pride in being a strong and caring father, always offering guidance, support, and encouragement to his children. In later years, he found his greatest joy in being a grandfather, cherishing every moment with his grandchildren and creating lasting memories with them. To his family, he will forever be remembered as a man of integrity, wisdom, and unwavering love. Nick will be remembered as a strong and, at times, stubborn man, but whose big heart touched everyone he met. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand and was always there for anyone in need. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Reneeand Husband Todd Soderstrom, and Amanda and Husband Perry Fisher. Nick was a proud grandfather to Kay Wales, Marc Wales, Brandon Berkey, Jeremiah Soderstrom, Rachel and Jacob Sierra, Destini and Jamie Prieto, Sereniti and JJ Kelley, Trinti Fisher and Diviniti Fisher. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy : Xavier Wales, J.T Prieto, Alice Kelley and Juliette Sierra. He is survived by his sister , Kimberly Marie Donovan, and brother-in-law, Mark Donovan as well as his extended family through marriage, Lorna Fisher, Douglas Fisher and Justin Fisher. Nick cherished the friendships he built over the years especially his “Band of Postal carrier's” who was more than a friend group to Nick they became family to him they all stayed in contact until the end - Jennifer Uballe, Floyd and Nadine Medina, and Robert Mitchell.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Delno Lewis; his brother, Gary Franklin Lewis; his beloved wife, Wanda Lee Lewis; and his son, Joel Jess Lewis. While his absence leaves a deep void, his family finds comfort in knowing he has been reunited with the loved ones who went before him. Nick’s life was one of service, love and dedication. He will be remembered for his courage, his generosity, and the deep devotion he showed to his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A funeral service with military honors will be held on September 24. 2025 at 10:00 a.m at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 West Kenyon Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80236
