William "Father Bill" Alvin Anderson
January 30th, 1944 - August 26th, 2025
The Reverend William Alvin Anderson (“Father Bill”) passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025. He was born January 30, 1944, in Aiken, SC to Marcus Sr. and Thelma Anderson.
Bill devoted his entire life to helping and nurturing others in every aspect of their lives; emotionally, educationally, and spiritually.
He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in Augusta, Georgia, and went on to receive a degree in English from the University of Georgia.
While studying at UGA, he met Jane, the love of his life, and they married on November 12, 1965.
Bill served four years in the United States Navy and, while serving, earned his master’s degree in education administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
Bill then became the Registrar at the University of South Carolina Aiken.
During the 1980s, the family moved to the Pacific Northwest, where Bill held positions as Associate and Assistant Registrar at Montana Technological University and Washington State University.
The family later returned to SC, and Bill became Registrar at the College of Charleston.
Later in life, Bill was called to the ministry, and was ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church in 2003.
He served as Rector of St. Christopher’s at the Crossroads Episcopal Church in Perry, GA from 2004 to 2008.
He later served as Priest-in-Charge at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Great Falls, SC for about a year.
Most recently, Bill served as an Assisting Priest at The Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude in Irmo, SC, which he also considered his spiritual home.
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Jane, his parents, and his brother Marcus, Jr. He is survived by his son, William Seth, his brother David (Maria), and four nieces.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 10:30 am. The service will take place at The Episcopal Church of St. Simon & St. Jude, 1110 Kinley Road, Irmo, SC 29063.
