In 1961 he married Donna Lamoreaux in Mesa, Arizona. He earned his BS and MS degrees in agronomy from the University of Arizona. After graduation he worked as farm manager for the University of Arizona, managing the Casa Grande Highway farm, the Campbell Avenue Farm and the Marana farm at different times in his career.

He was active in his church his entire life and served in many positions of responsibility including Bishop, 2nd counselor in the Tucson North Stake presidency and Stake Patriarch

For many years he was involved in the Boy Scouts, serving in many different positions over the years.
