Stanley "Stan" Roy Hultgren
July 1st, 1938 - August 29th, 2025
In Loving Memory
Stanley “Stan” Roy Hultgren, 87, passed away on Friday, August 29th, 2025, in the evening of his 61st wedding anniversary just in time to dance with his bride at the gates of heaven.
He was born in Cloquet, MN on July 1st, 1938 to his parents: Gust and Mildred Hultgren. He grew up in Mahtowa, MN on the Hultgren Family Farm, spending most of his time growing vegetables and haying the field with his younger brother, Lyle. Stan attended Blackhoof Valley School early on then graduated from Barnum High School in 1956. Entering in 1961, he served proudly for the US Army in Germany until 1963. Stan soon after met the love of his life, Darlene Paulson; they wed on August 29th, 1964 in Cloquet, MN.
Stan started working at Weyerhaeuser Co, as a Maintenance worker until their location closed in 1980. He held a variety of occupations to care for his family, then unselfishly moving down to the Twin Cities to work, retiring and coming back home to his family in Mahtowa in 2000.
He was a man who took pride in family, friendships, and his Swedish heritage. He was a hard working man, who enjoyed the outdoors. Stan spent endless hours cutting wood with his family, hunting deer, watching sporting events, tinkering with machinery, and watching the wildlife in his backyard. Stan had a dry whit to him and had his own way of showing compassion.
More than anything, Stan was a family man. His greatest joy came from being a husband and being able to support his family. He is preceded into death by the love of his life, Darlene in 2014; his daughter, Alana in 2013, and his parents Gust and Mildred. He is survived by his children: Benita Ellison, Corina (Richard) Newman, Darren (Dawn) Hultgren, and Erica (Chad) Thompson; Brother: Lyle (Candy) Hultgren; Grandchildren: Jeremy (Beth) Privette, Andrew Privette, Chris Privette, Nathan (Sary) Privette, Courtney Ellison, Cami Ellison, Katrina (Kurt) Moody, Jessica (Andrew) Youngren, Justin Newman, Brandon Newman, Jordan (Lindsey) Hultgren, Lauren (James) Jopp, Garrett Hultgren, Jacob Hultgren, Zach (Megan) Thompson, Alex (Kylie) Thompson, and Nick (Abby) Thompson. He was a great grandpa to 14 great grandchildren and had many other family and friends.
A visitation will begin at 10 am on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet, MN. A funeral service will be at 11am with a reception to follow.
Stan's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Moose Lake Village in Moose Lake, MN for the exceptional care they gave to our Dad, especially at the end of his life. They would also like to thank St. Croix Hospice for the compassion and comfort they displayed.
A private burial will be at the Sandy Lake Cemetery in Blackhoof Township at a later date.
