It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Ray West, who went home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2025, at the age of 76, at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Florida. Born on May 10, 1949, in Colquitt, Georgia, Dennis was a beloved brother, grandfather, and a proud veteran of the United States Army. Dennis was a 1969 graduate of Auburndale High School, where he demonstrated his athletic prowess as a key player for the Auburndale Bloodhounds, leaving a mark that has not been forgotten. He dedicated many years of his life to Coca-Cola and equally served his country with honor during the Vietnam War as a skilled marksman with the esteemed 101st Airborne Division. His military career was distinguished; he achieved the rank of Sergeant and earned numerous accolades including ten medals, among them the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, and the Bronze Star. His time in service was a reflection of his resilience and commitment. Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Johnnie Sue Easley and Zelda West, both of Auburndale, Florida, as well as his grandchildren, Jaden and Chance Gardner, and his great-grandchild, Alaia Jade Gardner. His legacy continues in the hearts of those he leaves behind, including family and friends who cherished his kindness and generosity. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Lenton and Laurine (Dean) West, as well as his siblings: Lamar West, Emma Chesnut, Osa Newberry, Ruth Palmer, Smiley West, Wayne Bush, Dorothy Bedsole, Benton David "Buddy" West, and Gregory West. He also mourned the loss of his wives, Kathy Monroe West and Toni Heuton West, along with his daughter, Chasity West. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, with the family receiving friends from 10 AM to 11 AM, followed by services starting at 11 AM, officiated by Pastor Jerry Smith. The family invites all who knew Dennis to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516, or locally to the Wounded Warrior Sportsmen Fund, P.O. Box 2251, Bartow, Florida 33832. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Grace Manor Assisted Living in Lakeland, Florida, which he considered his extended family. Dennis Ray West leaves behind a legacy of bravery, kindness, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
