Grant Michael Geffre

Grant Michael Geffre, 47, Loveland, CO, passed away peacefully at his home on August 28, 2025. Grant was born to parents Gil and Denise Geffre in 1978 in Bismarck, ND where he grew up. His first job was at McDonalds. His younger cousin Brian was in complete awe of this and couldn’t be more impressed than if he started Microsoft. Even at a young age Grant displayed leadership qualities. He became assistant manager at 16.  We joked that we would proudly display his Employee of the Month plaque along with his coveted Diaper Derby trophy.

Grant has always been handy. He worked in construction at a young age. He could fix anything. He became the neighborhood handyman and loved to help neighbors and friends with projects.

Grant grew up with his younger sister Jesica. He had a built-in best friend for life. He was also blessed to have an older sister Melissa who he was fortunate to become close with later in life His senior year of high school he met the love of his life Tara. They were lucky to find each other at such a young age. Their first son Cale was born, and he became the light of their life.  From a young age Grant always worked hard to support his family.  He went to college at Bismarck State. During this time, he worked at Sears and H&R Block where he became interested in finance.  He completed his accounting degree at the University of North Dakota.  He passed all four parts of his CPA exam on the first try, those in accounting know what an accomplishment this is.  He then got a job with the accounting firm Deloitte and Touche in Minneapolis, MN and they moved their family to Shakopee. He was a member of the audit team of United Health Group for many years. He became a senior manager and a mentor to countless people.  In 2009, they were blessed to welcome their son Maxwell into the world.  Grant's greatest joy was spending time with his boys. He loved attending their sporting events and watching them grow into men. He was extremely proud of them.

He started working for TCF Bank in 2010.  He remained working for them until after his second brain surgery in 2024. Grant always loved the outdoors. He developed a love of the mountains at an early age when his family would visit his aunts and uncles in Colorado. In 2018 without knowing if he would have a job, they took a giant leap and decided to move to Colorado. He continued to work for TCF (now Huntington Bank) remotely.  He loved spending time outdoors. He will be remembered for saying "Just another beautiful day in Colorado” especially when it was thirty below back home. He loved hiking 14ers including Long's Peak, which can be viewed daily in Loveland.  When asked where he wanted to go on vacation he would always say "Why would we go anywhere? We are on vacation."

In February of 2023, he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Although given a grim prognosis, he never felt sorry for himself or questioned why me. He woke up from his first surgery joking "I said I wanted a bottle in front of me not a frontal lobotomy." He underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, research trials and a second brain surgery, this one while awake! He bought a Mustang and added custom plates as his “tumor treatment.”  He loved driving up the "twisties" into the mountains.

He was proud to participate in Pelotonia.  This is an annual bike ride sponsored by his company, Huntington Bank, to raise money for cancer research. In August of this year, when travel was no longer possible, we held a neighborhood ride where he received love and support from countless friends and neighbors.

One of Grant’s greatest accomplishments was having the honor of officiating Cale and Alexis’ wedding in May of this year. Grant did not wait until being diagnosed with brain cancer to live life to the fullest. He had an incredible faith in God which was apparent in the way he lived his life despite the many obstacles he encountered. He felt incredibly blessed to have so many people in his life who loved him. He was often brought to tears with all the support he received. His office window was covered in pictures, letters and cards from friends and family.

Grant was a man of strong faith and core values. Even though physically not with us, he will remain a moral compass for his boys. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend to all. He led a life of integrity while doing things his way.  A quote from a friend was “Grant showed us all to move forward with love, dignity and positivity, even when faced with overwhelming setbacks and challenges.” He is finally at peace at home with his heavenly Father.

He is survived by and will be deeply missed by wife Tara Geffre, sons Cale Geffre (Alexis Kane) and Maxwell Geffre, parents Gil and Denise Geffre, siblings Jesica Geffre and Melissa Tollifson, grandmother Arlene Grenz and mother and father-in-law Charles and Helen Tollerud.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene and Margaret Geffre and grandfather Albert Grenz and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

His funeral was September 9, 2025 in Hague, ND. He was buried at St.Mary’s Cemetery in Hague, ND where he will rest with 3 generations of Geffres.

A memorial Mass and celebration will be held October 10 at 10 am at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Fort Collins CO, celebrated by Fr. Joseph Toledo with a reception to follow.
