Former White Lake resident Howard Reston McDonald, 85, passed away September 1, 2025 in Melbourne, FL, his home since 2008.

A devoted Christian, Howard was part of Melbourne’s Calvary Baptist Church, having been a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Germantown, Ohio, since the age of 12.

Howard grew up in Germantown, Ohio, graduated from public school, and spent 5 years as a business administration major at Miami University of Ohio and the University of Cincinnati.

His military service was in the U.S. Navy as a photographer, and his professional career was devoted entirely to the photographic industry until retirement in 1988. During retirement, Howard owned and operated multiple retail businesses, and his other pursuits included becoming a commercial pilot, working in the hotel business, and preparing income tax returns for H&R Block.

Howard was an excellent cook. He would prepare full-course dinners for family and friends. His brother, Edgar, recalls a delicious dinner he had while visiting Howard in Canada—a meal he never forgot.

Beyond his work and hobbies, his true joy came from connecting with people. His legacy will live on in the stories and memories he shared with everyone he knew. Known for his gregarious and outgoing nature, Howard could strike up a conversation with anyone and always made people feel seen and heard. He will be remembered for his captivating conversation and ability to put a smile on anyone's face.

Throughout his life, Howard built strong, lasting friendships. As his friend Kenny explained, “Howard and I have been friends since the fifth grade. He was the best friend I ever had, and it’s a bond that many people never get to experience. He will be missed, but knowing that he has his heavenly reward is enough for me.”

Howard had been married for 25 years to Joanne Louise Pence (née Blevins) and is survived by children Shannon Erich Reston McDonald, Denise Fay Laflamme (née Pence); three  grandchildren, Joseph, Mitchell, and Nichole; and great-grandson, Joey Laflamme, aka Roadrunner!

At his request, there will be no services or visitation. His earthly body was cremated in preparation for burial at sea by the U.S. Navy.
