Jack Joseph Glasgo

Longtime Olympia/Lacey resident Jack Glasgo passed away after a lengthy illness on August 1, 2025. Jack Joseph Glasgo was born in Aberdeen, Washington on March 30, 1934, to John and Julia Glasgo. Jack was their only child.

Jack is survived by his two sons, John and David and their wives, Danette and Kim respectively. His wife Marilyn and her five children and their spouses, Carmen and Roger Smith, Steve and Sandra Haynie, Jay and Kelly Haynie, Lisa and Dale Haynie-Boyd, and Jeff and Lisa Haynie. Together they have 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Jack grew up in Aberdeen attending elementary, junior high and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1952. While in high school he played the Big Bass and Tuba instruments in the band and sang in the choir. He started a dance band called "Jack Glasgo and the Blue Flames" and played for many dances and high school proms. He also was a long jumper on the high school track team.

After graduating from GHJC he spent two years active duty in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War stationed in the South China Sea aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Ernest G Small. Jack joined the U.S Navy Reserves in 1952 while attending Grays Harbor Junior College.

At a young age Jack had many jobs growing up in Aberdeen from selling theater tickets at the D & R Theater, as well as popcorn and candy all for 25 cents. He later worked at Axland O'Hare's men's store which brought him to Olympia where he worked for several years at Hibberd & Cole men's store. His next ventures were at Capital Chevrolet, Capital City Honda and Rotter's Toyota. In his final years of employment, he enjoyed working at the Barn Nursery. Jack retired in 2001 working at Black Lake Elementary connecting with students and teachers, which he enjoyed so much.

Jack was active in the Olympia Jaycees, Youth Football, Capital Lakefair, The Capitalarians and Olympia Elks. He volunteered wherever he could help out making a difference, especially at Capital Medical Center for several years.

Jack rarely missed a sporting event for his children and grandchildren. Supporting his family was his greatest love.

Jack enjoyed cooking, and his homemade spaghetti sauce, crepes and muffin burgers were the family's favorites. He always looked forward to the holiday celebrations bringing the families together.

Jack and Marilyn were married on January 21, 1989, in Olympia, Washington. Together they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, Grand Canyon, Victoria B.C, and their favorite place on the Oregon Coast, Cannon Beach.

Jack was proud of his Irish heritage celebrating St. Patrick's Day every year was a big deal.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 28th, at the Jubilee Lodge, 8487 Bainbridge Loop NE, Lacey WA at 1:00pm followed by ice cream and cookies. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lacey Firefighters Charity, 1231 Franz St SE, Lacey, WA 98503, or a charity of your choice.
