Jo Rivers Baxter Tyler, SSF

Jo Rivers Baxter Tyler died on Monday, August 18, 2025 at her home in Temple Terrace, FL, just as she wished, surrounded by people who loved her. She was born in Covington, TN, the daughter of Durward D. Baxter, Sr. and Martha Jo Hall who preceded her in death, as did her brother, Gene Scott Baxter, and her son, William Durant (W.T.) Tyler. Rivers served the community for decades as a Latin and Biology teacher at King High School, as well as a soccer and track coach there, and after her retirement, tutored students at Hillsborough Community College. She was a faithful servant leader at St. Catherine of Alexandria Episcopal Church in Temple Terrace, and an active Third Order Franciscan. She is survived by her brother, Durward D. Buddy (Ann) Baxter, Jr. of Middleton, TN, innumerable nieces, nephews and cousins, extended family near Mt. Dora, FL, including sister-in-law, Martha (James) Lawley and their three daughters, as well as many, many, good friends. A Requiem Eucharist for Rivers will be held Saturday, September 13 at 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Alexandria, 502 Druid Hills Road, Temple Terrace, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Catherine’s in memory of Rivers.
