Carl Wayne Oberg
January 22nd, 1955 - September 2nd, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carl Wayne Oberg, who left this world on September 2, 2025, in Melbourne, Florida, at the age of 70. Born on January 22, 1955, in Providence, Rhode Island, Carl lived a life defined by a kind heart, a sharp wit, and passions that fueled his adventurous spirit.
Carl came to Brevard County in 1973, following visits to his aunt’s property on South Merritt Island, Florida, during the Apollo Space Program. Watching the Apollo 8 launch from a boat in 1969 sparked a lifelong fascination with aviation and inspired him to pursue his dream of flying. He attended the Florida Institute of Technology to study aviation, where he earned his private pilot’s license in 1976—fulfilling that dream.
In 1981, while in Newport, Rhode Island, Carl met the love of his life, Bonnie Joy. Just six weeks after first meeting, they married in October 1981, beginning a partnership filled with devotion, laughter, and family. After a brief move to Stuart, Florida, Carl and Bonnie returned to Brevard County in 1982, where they planted roots and built a life together.
Carl’s lifelong passions included aviation, stock car racing, and engineering—fields that reflected both his curiosity and his talent for problem-solving. He dedicated over 30 years of his career to Braid Sales and Marketing as a Product Engineer, where he was respected for his hard work and ingenuity until his retirement in 2019. During his career, Carl earned patents for machines he designed and created, leaving a legacy of innovation that will endure.
Above all, Carl was devoted to his family. He is survived by his two daughters, Carrie Ferguson (Jeff) and Caitlin Zambrano (Chris); his four beloved grandchildren, James, Dashiell, Luke, and baby Summer Joy, born in August 2025; and his sister, Dianne O’Brien (Robert) of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
Carl now joins his beloved wife, the late Bonnie Joy Oberg, with whom he shared more than three decades of love and devotion.
He will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, and his ability to light up a room with both his laughter and his wisdom. His legacy will endure in the memories of all who knew and loved him.
In accordance with Carl’s wishes, no formal service or celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Surfers for Autism or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, two organizations Carl held close to his heart.
