Mary A. Marshall
September 22nd, 1948 - August 29th, 2025
Mary A. Marshall of Haverstraw, NY, passed away on August 29, 2025, at the age of 76. Born in Manhattan on September 22, 1948, Mary was the beloved daughter of Muriel (née Forenza) and Thomas Carmody. She was raised in Haverstraw, where she attended local schools and built a life rooted in community, kindness, and family.
Mary was a familiar and cherished presence in the area, having worked at CH Martin, the Mt. Ivy Pub, Rosie’s, and Rhoda’s Café, among others. Her radiant spirit, warm smile, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
A devoted mother, Mary found her greatest joy in her family and her home, which was always filled with love, laughter, and creativity. She had a passion for crafts—especially her beloved diamond painting “dots”—and was an avid reader. She was an active member of the Haverstraw Seniors and former member with Meals on Wheels.
Mary is survived by her loving daughter, Keriann Marshall (Robert O’Connor Jr.) of Haverstraw, Katrina Marshall of Mahwah, NJ; and by the light of her life, Penelope Marshall of Mahwah, NJ. She is also survived by her nieces Shannon (Robert) DeRogatis of Largo, FL, Jaime Lyn (Mark) Garber of Mahwah, NJ, Gail Fulsom of Fayetteville, NC; nephews Ken (Paula) Gurnee, Paul (Kim) Gurnee of Clifton Park, NY, Nicholas (Irene) Benincasa of Haverstraw, NY; several great-nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Nick Benincasa and many cousins, including George, Pat, Jimmy, and Linda Forenza.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her life partner Andrew Simko, her sister Margaret Gurnee, her brother Thomas Carmody, her brother-in-law Harold Gurnee and nephew Michael Simko.
Her legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Burial of cremains will be on Saturday, September 20, 2025, 11am at Mt. Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY.
