Jimmy Dale Abbott
February 25th, 1957 - September 2nd, 2025
In Loving Memory
Jimmy Dale Abbott, 68, of Elgin, South Carolina passed away September 2, 2025, at MUSC Health Columbia Downtown Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on February 25, 1957 in Great Lakes, Illinois to Norman and the late Walldean (Aucoin) Abbott.
Jimmy was one of a kind and lived life his way unapologetically. He loved his friends and family and enjoyed spending time with them. He had a tender and generous heart. From an early age, he developed a love for dogs and fast cars. He Loved going to the races whether it was the drag strip or NASCAR. He also did a little racing of his own (unofficially of course). He also became an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of Goff Hunt club for many years where he developed many lasting friendships.
Jimmy had a decades long career at Abbott’s Auto Service Center. There, he partnered with his Father and brother to provide a valuable and trusted service to the Columbia area. He retired in 2015. Although he faced many health challenges over the past few years, he somehow stayed positive with a sense of humor and never at a loss for words. He is loved by so many and will be held in loving memory by all.
Jimmy is survived by His father Norman Dale Abbott, His brother Gary Wayne Abbott (Kelly) and his wife Brenda G. Abbott. He is also survived by many in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins, all of which he held dear.
He was preceded in death by Walldean Aucoin Abbott (mother), Steven Michael Abbott (nephew), Jack Aucoin (uncle), Jerry Aucoin (uncle) and Faye Aucoin (aunt).
The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 2:00PM with Reverend David Spears officiating. Interment will follow the chapel service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the National Kidney Foundation serving the Carolinas or the American Heart Association.
