Mary Frances (Fran) DeWitt, 90, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on Thursday August 21, 2025. She was born on March 6, 1935, in Crockett Texas, to the late Clarence Lee Davis and Mary Louise (Purvis) Davis, and raised in Sweetwater, Oklahoma where she was the 6th of 10 children in her large family. Fran was a young stewardess for Braniff Airlines when she met Bill DeWitt who was a passenger on one of her flights. They married on May 5, 1956, after a whirlwind romance. Bill and Fran moved many times for Bill’s military career, living in Massachusetts, Japan, California, Nebraska and then settling down in Bill’s home state of Colorado where he retired from the US Air Force. Following the military, Bill and Fran founded DeWitt Transportation which Fran continued to help manage until she retired at 87 years old. Fran enjoyed travelling, gaming at Cripple Creek, bargain hunting and spending time with her family.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years William (Bill) DeWitt, her daughter Lisa DeWitt, her parents, brothers Denzel Odell Davis and Charles Davis, sisters Cleta Bridler, Freda Coffey, Lavonne Hilley, and Clara Huffman and son-in-law Dave McWharter.

She is survived by her son, Greg DeWitt (Kate), daughter Pam McWharter; six grandchildren: Dara Miller, Katherine Buchholtz, Charlotte DeWitt, Kristin McWharter, Dylan McWharter, and Nicholas McWharter, and four great grandchildren Grace Miller, Alex Miller, Markus Buchholtz, and William Buchholtz. She is also survived by her brothers Harold Davis and Kenneth Davis and sister Gayle (Jeannette) Loupe and numerous brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
