Michael Allen Sullivan
April 13th, 1943 - September 4th, 2025
Michael Alen Sullivan, 82, of Ione, California, passed away peacefully at his home on September 4, 2025.
Born on April 13, 1943, in Oakland, California, Mike moved to Ione at the age of five, where he would spend the rest of his life. A proud graduate of Ione High School, Class of 1961, he built a life rooted in family, hard work, and community service.
Mike began his career at the Lumber Mill in Martell before driving trucks for Par Gas, delivering propane to Amador County residents. He later ran the local Hancock's Gas Station (now Chevron) and went on to serve as a Stationary Engineer at Preston School of Industry for 24 years. During his years at Preston, he also co-owned and operated The Plumbing Shop in Ione, managing the business in partnership while continuing his full-time work. Beyond his professional commitments, Mike gave generously of his time as a volunteer firefighter with the Ione Fire Department and was a dedicated member of Native Sons of the Golden West, Ione Parlor No. 33, for over 50 years. His service to the community was a source of deep pride and purpose.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer L. Griffith (Terry Griffith) and Michael Eric Sullivan (Esther Leon Sullivan); his son-in-law, James Hines; grandchildren Samantha R. Gutierrez, Sydnee E. Slaughter, Maxwell S. Hines, Brandon M. Rodgers, Trevor E. Griffith, Macy A. Nauss, and Sierra N. Karr; along with 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Francis Sullivan and Jessie Elizabeth Walker Gillum; stepfather Lester W. Gillum; daughter Kelly J. Hines; grandson Robert P. Hines; and sister Patricia R. Yarrington.
Mike was known for his quick wit, his gift for storytelling, and his generous spirit. He was deeply proud of the home he built in Ione, where he lived for 77 years and hoped to pass on to his children. A devoted family man, loving father and grandfather, and tireless worker, Mike will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
