Thomas “Tom” Phillip Harris, Sr., age 86, of Creswell, Oregon, passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2025.Tom was born on December 14, 1938, in Columbus, Kansas.

 

He proudly served his country, first enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in Grants Pass Oregon from January 1959 to September 1962, and later continuing his service with the U.S. Navy from October 1963 to 1965, answering the call of duty during the Vietnam War. After returning home, Tom worked with the forestry division out of Oakridge and later moved into Eugene and began working at American Steel where he began a career and raised his family.For over 53 years, Tom was a dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles,serving as president of both the Eugene and Springfield chapters.

 

Beyond his service and community involvement, he will be remembered for his love of camping, fishing,dancing, country music, and classic Westerns—especially those starring his favorite actor, John Wayne.

 

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Virginia Harris; his three children,daughters Janay and husband, Chris Serlick, Catherine and husband Tim Brown and son Tom Jr. and his wife Sue Harris; ten grandchildren; and thirteen Great-Grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Verna, and two grandsons, James Serlick and Joshua Harris.

 

A celebration of Tom’s life, with full military honors, will be held on Wednesday,September 10, 2025, at West Lawn Funeral Home. A viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m.,followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.
