Mary Jane Thomson

Mary Jane (Hawk) Thomson, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 7, 2025.  

Mary was born in Christiana, Pennsylvania on April 16, 1935 at home, second of eight children to the late Edward & Mildred Summers Hawk.  

She graduated from Coatesville High School in 1953. She married Jesse Thomson in Valley Forge on May 21, 1955 for 54 years until his passing on February 10, 2010. She always said it wasn’t long enough.  

Mary was a homemaker for many years until she began working at Utica College in a part-time clerical position in 1976 until her retirement in 1989 moving from Utica, New York, to Ocala, Florida. 

She loved sewing, dancing, bowling, playing cards, and reupholstering furniture, which she took pride in. She loved traveling to visit friends and family.  

She is survived by her son, Michael (Jenn) Thomson, daughter, Barbara (Scott) Hartshorn; two grandchildren, Jennifer Hartshorn & Jeffrey Hartshorn; three great grandchildren - Jayden, Alexis, and Aubrey; three brothers, James, Galen, and Francis (Kathy) Hawk, along with many nieces and nephews.  

Mary is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Jesse; her parents, Edward & Mildred Hawk; brothers, Edward III, William, and two infant brothers.  

Memorial services will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home at 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, Florida on September 18, 2025 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. Interment will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on September 19, 2025.
