In Loving Memory

Dorothy Louise Pfaff (Murray)

Dorothy Louise Pfaff passed away on September 6, 2025 at the age of 98.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Murray; her father, Lawrence Murray; her sisters, Ella Mae Murray and Delores Huff; her brothers, Richard and Clyde Murray. She has one brother, Michael Murray still living.

Dorothy had 6 children, William Egger (deceased), Linda Michaels (Donald, deceased), Sandra Knutson (Kenneth, deceased), Deborah Sims (Carl), David Egger (Tammy); Jodi Griffiths (Terrence) and two stepchildren, Jack Louis Jr. (deceased) and April Williams (Frederick). She was also preceded in death by her adored grandson, Terrence Jack Griffiths. She leaves 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons.

Dottie (the name her friends knew her by) was born in Jewett, Ohio and spent the first half of her life living in Ohio.  She and her family lived on Portage Lakes in Akron, Ohio, for many years. She loved spending time cruising the many lakes and Lake Erie in her family boat named “Dingy Dottie’s Dory”. She was most often found hitting balls on the golf courses, especially Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Course. A highlight of her years of golfing was volunteering for the PGA tournaments held at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

After making a trip in 1959 to Florida with her best friend Shirley, she knew she would one day move to this state filled with sunshine and warm weather.  In 1981 Dorothy and her husband moved to North Port, Florida. She was never a fan of Ohio’s weather and made that known to everyone.  After a few years, she moved to Rotonda West next to a golf course. While enjoying her golf, she surprised (not only herself), but her many golf buddies by actually accomplishing the feat of getting 2 “holes-in-one” on two separate golf outings. The first was at the Palms #5 on April 22, 1992 and the second at Cape Haze Links on March 3, 1993.

She worked many years as a bartender and waitress. She was a very outgoing and social lady, so she very much enjoyed this line work. After moving to Florida, she worked as a cashier at the Kmart in Englewood.

As well as being members of the Rotonda Golf & Country Club, she and her husband were members of the VFW, Elks, American Legion and Moose Clubs in Rotonda West, Florida. If she was not on the golf course, she and Jack could be found at any one of these clubs enjoying a few drinks (maybe more than just a few) and the company of friends.

Dorothy very much loved her family and was proud of them. She was especially thankful for her family living in Florida who stepped in to help care for her these past 15 years. This included William (deceased son), daughter Jodi and Terrence (youngest daughter and son-in-law), David and Tammy (son and daughter-in-law) Kenneth and Kaden Knutson (grandson and great-grandson). She was very humbled and grateful for all the help, love and care they provided to her. Also, her dear friend and neighbor who she dearly loved, Caroline Holm, who checked in on her especially when she was too bull-headed to leave her home during hurricanes.

The family would like to thank Aspire at Englewood Rehabilitation Center for the care she received after being placed in the facility in May of 2025.
