Mementos

It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of John Hroncich, who departed this life peacefully on 8/22/2025.

John was born on May 1, 1947 on the small island of Male Srakane (Little Srakane), Yugoslavia, which is a peaceful island on the Adriatic Sea, and now part of modern day Croatia. Growing up surrounded by the sea, John's lifelong love of the water began in those early island days, where nature and simplicity shaped his gentle soul.

At age 14, John immigrated with his family to Astoria, New York, where he embraced a new chapter in life with resilience and hope. He was the youngest of four children and the first among his siblings to graduate from high school and attend college, a proud milestone that reflected his determination and quiet ambition.

John went on to build a successful 30 year career as a stock analyst on Wall Street, earning respect not just for his sharp mind, but for his unwavering integrity and work ethic.

But John’s proudest achievement was the life he built with Jean, the love of his life, whom he met at a local community center dance in Queens, NY. From the moment they met, they were inseparable. After three years of courtship, they married and for over 52 joyful years, they stood side by side, building a life full of love, laughter, and shared dreams.

In 1999, John and Jean moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he enjoyed a more relaxed, semi-retired life. In 2018, they made their final move and retired to the Cocoa Beach area in Florida, where they were embraced by a warm and welcoming community and formed a new family of loving friends who became as close as family.

John was also a gifted gardener, known among friends and family for his green thumb. Whether coaxing life from the soil or offering a thoughtful word, he nurtured all things with quiet care and patience.

John was beloved by many. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Jean, with whom he shared over 52 wonderful years of marriage. The bond they shared was rare and beautiful, a true partnership built on deep affection, unwavering support, and a lifetime of shared memories. Their love was the center of John's world, and their devotion to one another was an inspiration to everyone who knew them. He will also be deeply missed and was loved by his brother and sisters, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and countless dear friends. His warmth, his wisdom, and his quiet strength touched all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Pancreatic Foundation in John's memory.
