Sally Ann Conway
October 31st, 1941 - August 23rd, 2025
Sally Ann (Conroy) Conway
Sally Ann Conway, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025, after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.
Sally was born on October 31, 1941, in Marion, Ohio, to the late Donald Conroy and Jean Parker. She graduated from Harding High School in Marion and went on to earn her nursing degree in 1962 from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton, Ohio. Shortly after graduation, she met the love of her life, John Bernard “Barney” Conway. The two were married on July 9, 1966, in Columbus, Ohio, and shared nearly 60 years of marriage filled with love, devotion, and partnership. Together they lived in Columbus and Brecksville, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before settling in Beloit, Wisconsin in 1984, where they made their home for 38 years.
Sally and Barney raised four children: Joe Conway of Duxbury, MA; Kevin Conway of Chicago, IL; Meghan Conway (Ryan Jones) of Boulder, CO; and Maureen (Patrick) Cameron of Boulder, CO. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Aidan, Holden, and Evelyn Cameron, who brought her endless joy. She was the youngest sibling of David (Judy) Conroy and Donna (John) Bodman and enjoyed her several nieces and nephews.
For more than four decades, Sally worked as a registered nurse in a variety of settings, retiring from Premier Care Skilled Nursing in Beloit in 2004. She was admired for her compassion, dedication, and the exceptional care she gave to her patients. Beyond her nursing career, Sally pursued her love of fashion, running a women’s clothing business through trunk shows, where her energy and style made her a natural success. In retirement, Sally discovered a passion for watercolor painting, studying with local artists and at UW–Madison. She created countless works that brightened her home and community, exhibiting locally and earning awards from the Wisconsin Regional Art Program. She combined her love of travel with her art, attending workshops in Maine and across the Midwest.
Sally had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys and often “took the scenic route.” She never passed up a farm stand, flea market, or rummage sale without bringing home a treasure. She loved traveling—especially to Ireland and many trips to New England in the fall—and cherished long walks through her Beloit neighborhood and along the wooded creek path near her home.
Known for her wit, warmth, and ability to connect with anyone she met, Sally made friends easily and cultivated many lifelong relationships. She had a rare gift for making others feel seen, valued, and important. Above all, Sally’s greatest devotion was to her faith and her family. A longtime member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Beloit, she drew strength and comfort from her Catholic faith throughout her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her family will forever remember her encouragement, laughter, and unwavering love.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, David Conroy; her infant son, Luke Conway; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Caroline (Joe) Conway.
A memorial service and refreshments will be held Sunday, October 12 at 3:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Road, Beloit, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Beloit Art Center www.beloitartcenter.com to help support local emerging artists.
