Mr. Forbis "Pete" Lee Kivett, 97, of Greensboro passed away on September 10, 2025 under the care of the Friends Home of Guilford County in Greensboro. Born in Staley, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Thomas and Lake (Blair) Kivett and husband of the late Miriam Scotten Kivett.
Pete served in the Army National Guard until 1952 as a senior wireman. He was the last surviving charter member of Trinity Church in Greensboro. He loved his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. Not only did he love his family, but he was part of the care ministry at Trinity Church that visited with folks facing illness. He was steadfast in his faith until the very end when he joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Pete is survived by his daughters, Cathy Garrett (Rick) and Susan Shepard; his grandchildren, Ashley Rivenbark (Jason), Justin Garrett (Nicole), Josh Kivett (Brook), Michelle Kaiser (Mike), Caitlin Shepard, Shannon Sell (Bradley); his great-grandchildren, Fisher and Case Rivenbark, Will and Leah Garrett, Berkley and Bristol Sell; his siblings, Nancy Stanley (Jim) and Jerry Kivett (Lori); and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Scotten Kivett; his son-in-law, Ross Shepard; his siblings, Francis Jones and Jimmy Kivett.
Funeral services will be at Trinity Church, 5200 W Friendly Ave, Greensboro, NC 27410 on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 10:00AM with Pastor Marc Putnam officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 12:30PM. Interment will be at 1:00PM at the Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, NC. Following the interment anyone wishing to offer fellowship with the family may join them at Susan's home, 2686 NC HWY 62 E, Liberty, NC 27298.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Trinity Church or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
