Wayne Eldon Kaske
September 9th, 1940 - September 7th, 2025
Wayne was born on the farm known as Sunny Hillside Farm in Wentworth, South Dakota. He was raised in Wentworth Presbyterian Church and had a great life of 13 years as a farm kid, then moved to Seattle, Washington a few days after his 13th birthday.
Wayne grew up in the big city of Seattle, learning to get around the uptown Mount Baker District, Beacon Hill, Rainier Valley and parts of Renton. He joined the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program and rose to Cadet Commander of Sea Squadron always trying to be the leader.
He quit school, joined the Air Force and served nine months, twenty-one days, and received a General Discharge under Honorable Conditions. He then hitchhiked home, got into the Union Apprenticeship, worked to be the Number 1 Sign Hanger doing big signs and big truck working into the Foreman Position. He became Officer in his Union and a Business Rep for IBEW Local 46. At the age of 36, he went into Local Government.
Some of his proudest moments were when Wayne married, at age 19, to Marlene Kaske. He worked in the Electrical Sign Industry, was active in his union. On February 5, 1969 adopted their son, Mark who had been born on January 8, 1969 and was about one month old. They wanted to have another child and was blessed to find that Marlene was pregnant with their daughter Jennifer who was born on August 24, 1970. She was his Skookleberry and Mark was his Boo, the Boy Kid! Marlene later passed in 2005.
Some of Wayne’s proudest career accomplishments was being the Lead Sign Hanger and Foreman. In addition in 1973 he became a Business Rep for his Union IBEW Local 46. In 1981 he was elected Mayor for the City of Brier serving on and off for 16 years.
He was Chair of both SnoCom and 800 Megahertz Boards. He hired Norma Schultz as City Clerk/Treasurer, hiring her away from the City of Mountlake Terrace in 1984. On February 4, 2006, Norma became his wife.
His best memories were being Mayor, having a great career in the Electrical Trades, retiring at age 56 in February 1997, traveling across the USA with his 5th wheel seeing all 50 states, marrying two special women, having two great kids and three great step kids, his and Norma’s nine grandkids and five great-grandkids, owning a condo in Arizona and his trip to the Holy Land with Norma.
Memorial Service to be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Cascade View Presbyterian Church, 1030 E. Casino Road in Everett, WA 98203. Burial will be Monday, September at Floral Hills Cemetery in Bothell, Washington.
