In Loving Memory

Mr. James Thomas Lyon, Jr. (Jim), 91, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on September 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in May 1934 in Siler City, North Carolina. Jim was a proud graduate of Bessemer High School and Elon College. He went on to serve his country with honor for 35 years in the North Carolina National Guard and the Army Reserves of Pennsylvania.

Jim enjoyed a long and successful career with Sun Oil Company, and after retirement, continued to stay active in his community by working as a van driver for local auto dealerships. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life-he was a devoted member of the Wilmington Lions Club for over 30 years, where he enjoyed participating in "White Cane Day" and collecting glasses to support the visually impaired.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Anna T. Lyon; parents, James T. Lyon, Sr. and Jennie J. Lyon; sister, Margaret L. Phillips; brother, Ronald W. Lyon; and sister-in-law, Judy M. Lyon.

He is survived by his son, James T. Lyon III (Cindy); daughter, Jennifer Lyon; and grandchildren, James T. Lyon IV and Christine Lyon; sister Sandra L. Stafford (Bobby). He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends who will remember him fondly.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and medical staff who provided exceptional care to Jim throughout his journey. A special thank you to the Bayada in-home caregivers for their kindness, patience, and compassion. Our heartfelt gratitude is extended to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare staff who supported Jim and his family during his transition to his Heavenly home.

The family will receive friends at Pierce-Jefferson– Lambeth Chapel, 300 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, NC 27401 on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. Funeral services will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery, 3601 Whitehurst Rd., Greensboro, NC 27401 with Rev. Michael Barrett officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Wilmington Lions Club or Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (hospice).
