Rosemary Gallegos

Rosemary Gallegos, 78, of Carrizozo, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Bernalillo, New Mexico, surrounded by loved ones. Born on May 6, 1947, in Carrizozo, New Mexico, Rosemary was the cherished daughter of Pioquento Marquez, Sr. and Elvira Lucero.

Rosemary grew up in Alamogordo and Carrizozo, New Mexico. Carrizozo is where she attended, graduated High School, made lifelong friendships and met her beloved husband of 50 years Frank Gallegos, Sr. Known affectionately as “Rose” to those close to her, she was admired for her warm and fun-loving demeanor. She and Frank created their own little family, and she began her career in Carrizozo.

Rosemary’s career was a testament to her commitment to Carrizozo. She worked many years for the City of Carrizozo in numerous capacities such as MVD clerk, police chief and city judge

secretary. She also worked for the Senior Center and Carrizozo Schools as a Cook. Rosemary was especially renowned for her amazing tamales, a family tradition that brought joy to countless gatherings and celebrations in Carrizozo and beyond.

Rosemary is survived by her son Frank Gallegos, Jr., of Las Cruces, NM, son Jessie Gallegos and his better half Erica Lueras, of Alamogordo, NM, daughter, Julie and son-in-law Richard Thornton, of Bernalillo, NM; her granddaughters, Jassamyn Thornton, Antonia Marshall and Namhi Gallegos; her grandsons, Joseph Gallegos and Macario Gallegos; her brothers Thomas Lucero, Ray Marquez, Pioquento Marquez, Jr and sister Hope Marquez; many nieces, nephews, cousins, God children, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters and brothers-in-laws and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse Frank Gallegos, Sr, her father, Pioquento Marquez, Sr., Mother, Elvira Lucero, her brother, Jesse Marquez and sister, Debra Ortiz.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 213 E Ave, Carrizozo, NM 88301. “In lieu of flowers or monetary donations, the family requests donations be made to St. Rita Catholic Church in Carrizozo, NM. We would like to thank Bosque Trails Hospice for their great care.

May she be free of pain and suffering, and dancing in Heaven with our dad.
