The Island Funeral Home & Crematory
Richard Anthony Kisala
February 15th, 1945 - September 13th, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we share Richard Anthony Kisala, 80, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025.
Born on February 15, 1945, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Rich lived a full and meaningful life, grounded in devotion to his family, faith, his friends, his country, and the place he called home for the past 22 years — Hilton Head Island.
A proud U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, Rich carried his service and patriotism with him always. After his military service, he went on to enjoy a successful and fulfilling career as a mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry.
Rich married the love of his life, Aggie, and together they shared 54 wonderful years. Their marriage was the cornerstone of his life, and he often said that if it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t be where he was. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, raising their beloved daughter, Laura, and later welcoming with open arms his son-in-law, Craig and his family.
Rich was known for his large personality, warm smile, and his ability to make others laugh. When he loved, he loved big. He found joy in the beauty of the Lowcountry, cared deeply for all animals especially Dutchess & Maggie Mae, enjoyed target shooting, food & wine, music & dancing, and his many friend groups on the island including K of C, IACHH, and the LC Vietnam Veterans Group. But above all, he was happiest at home in Hilton Head, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Agnes (Walsh) Kisala; his daughter, Laura Kisala Picard; his son-in-law, Craig Picard; his sister, Tina Kisala; and his loving in-laws including his dear nieces and nephews. His legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on in all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church at 10:00am on September 26th, followed by an Inurnment with Military Honors at Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines. Immediately afterward, family and friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Rich’s life. (Venue TBD)
Rich will be deeply missed but never forgotten. He will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Operation Patriots FOB.
