Marietta Basciano Restivo

Marietta passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, at the age of 95 just 19 days before her 96th birthday. She was born October 1, 1929, in Baltimore, MD at the start of the Great Depression into the Basciano family with two brothers and one sister.

She has been a resident of Satellite Beach Fl since 1960 after relocating from Texas with her husband, Salvatore Restivo, who predeceased her, to join the space program. Marietta’s surviving family includes three sons and their spouses, Joseph (Rebecca), Nicolas (Melanie), and John (Cynthia). Marietta was also a grandmother of eight and a great grandmother of nine, all of whom are doing well.

Marietta "had spunk and determination" was a common description of her by her friends and family. You always knew where she stood on most any topic as she was a walking encyclopedia. Marietta, in addition to being a wonderful mother, had a full life as a professional administrator working with the Safety Office at Patrick Air Force base supporting the space program from the Mercury program to Gemini to Apollo to the Space Shuttle.

After retiring from Civil Service supporting the space program, Marietta was also very proud of her twenty-five years as a volunteer with the Satellite Beach Police department. Marietta worked with other volunteers in the “Stop by and Say Hi Program,” Citizens Patrol and as a Crossing Guard in the early days.

Her sons remember; Mom was always engaged in some new hobby or activity after working all day at the office and attending to all our needs at home. She was a fabulous cook and baker. She always wanted to learn something new academically. She was very smart and had a wealth of information without the internet, says all who knew her well. Her physical activities included bicycling, karate, dancing, exercising and dog walking. She loved her dogs.

We will always remember her smile, energy, and drive! Goodbye Mom…. We were truly fortunate to have you.
