Susan Ann Armstrong Susa, kind to all and loved by many, died Aug. 19 after a fierce and valiant battle against ovarian cancer. Susan fought hard for the three years since her diagnosis, hoping her journey could help others win theirs. Susan is survived by her husband, Jim Susa; her beloved children Kevin and Kimberly Pina and daughter-in-law Caitlin Pina; her brothers David, Steve and Bruce Armstrong; sister-in-law Teri Armstrong; and legions of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Armstrong, who died in 1984, and her mother, Nancy Armstrong, who died in 2016.

Susan was born in Tucson on April 29, 1965 and spent most of her life in Tucson. She was a gifted ballerina and a dedicated Girl Scout who loved classic rock, the outdoors, the color yellow and the University of Arizona Wildcats - she held season tickets and regularly attended women’s basketball and men’s football games. She loved her children above all, and happily opened her home to all of their friends as they grew. She was cherished by her husband, Jim, whom she married Jan. 2, 2021, and both shared a passion for crunching numbers and watching sports.

After graduating from Flowing Wells High School in 1983, Susan attended Eastern Arizona College and then the University of Arizona, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in finance and eventually becoming a certified public accountant. She spent most of her career at BeachFleischman PLLC, starting in January 2008 after the firm merged with her previous employer, Jon R. Young Company. She became a Principal and Shareholder of BeachFleischman in January 2017, and retired at the end of 2023.

Susan loved Tucson and served her community generously. She was a longtime committee member and board member of the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, and she proudly served as board president in 2020. She was an active member of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Tucson, serving as treasurer from 2018 to 2022.

A funeral mass for Susan will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 5150 N. Valley View Road. Those who cannot attend live are invited to watch via this link. A reception will follow from 1-3 p.m. at Skyline Country Club.
