Robert Fritz
June 18th, 1943 - September 16th, 2025
Robert D. Fritz, 82, of West Deptford passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 16, 2025.
Robert grew up in Gloucester, New Jersey and graduated from Gloucester High School. He went on to attend apprentice school, where he trained to become a Pipefitter, a career he proudly built at DuPont Chambers Works, dedicating himself to the company for 40 years. Alongside his professional life, Robert also served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves for 4 years, exemplifying the same strength, discipline, and loyalty that he carried throughout every aspect of his life.
A strong man deeply rooted in his Catholic faith, Robert loved his family and his faith with his whole heart fiercely, selflessly, and without hesitation. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus where he found fellowship and purpose through service to his church and community. Robert’s faith guided his life and shaped the devoted father, proud grandfather, and doting great-grandfather that he was.
He was the ultimate family man, always balancing work and family and consistently showing up for their events and being the loudest cheerleader in the stands. Robert’s devotion to his family was unending and never wavered.
Athleticism was a core part of Robert’s life. In his youth, he excelled in football, basketball, and track, and his passion for sports continued well into adulthood. He played semi-professional football until he was 40 years old, competed as a bodybuilder and weightlifter, and stayed active through various masters track and field, swimming, and bowling.
Robert was also a dedicated coach, generously giving his time and talent to help others succeed. He coached track and field as well as gymnastics, always encouraging young athletes to push beyond their limits with discipline and heart.
He found joy in staying active outdoors, gardening, meticulously caring for his lawn, or simply enjoying quiet moments on the porch swing. A devoted sports fan, Robert loved cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, Notre Dame football, and most importantly, any event involving his children or grandchildren. Still, nothing made him happier than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment with them.
The Jersey shore held a special place in his heart as a favorite spot to relax and recharge. Traveling with his family was one of Robert’s greatest joys, and a few of his most cherished adventures were a memorable trip to St. Lucia with his daughters and their families and an adventure to the Grand Canyon with his three daughters. Robert loved life, adventures, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends.
Robert’s warm smile and kind spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his three daughters, Donna Vivaldi (Anthony), Lorie Clayton (Adam) and Julie White (Craig); his siblings, twin sister Rose Freundlich and Daniel Fritz and; 5 grandchildren, Molly (Casey), Emily, Jake (Staci), Chance (Rita), Somer and Grayden; 4 great children, Kaidyn, Jake Jr., Ronan and Case. Robert is also survived by his companion of 13 years, Loretta Petito, lifelong best friend, James Goldschmidt, as well as countless extended family members and friends.
Robert is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Helen (Coursey) Fritz; his wife, Barbara Ann (Lathrop); sister, Ellen Killborn (Raymond); his brother John Fritz; brother and sister-in-law, Theresa Fritz and Gunther Freundlich.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury, NJ 08096 and again on Monday, September 22, 2025 from 9:30am until 10:45am at Infant Jesus Parish at St. Margaret’s Church, located at 3rd and Beech St. Woodbury Heights.
