Cloy McPherson Codiga
February 27th, 1934 - August 27th, 2025
Cloy McPherson Codiga, a longtime Santa Cruz local, passed away peacefully in her childhood home on August 27, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on February 27, 1934 to Dr. Mahlon and Blanche McPherson, Cloy lived a full and meaningful life marked by adventure, curiosity and a deep devotion to those she loved. She had a passion for travel, exploring the world with a sense of wonder that carried into every stage of her life. Bill and she enjoyed many unique trips that took them to beautiful locations around the world. Whether skiing in the Alps, Kodiak boat rides, swimming in Arroyo Seco, playing the ukulele to enjoying her backyard in her home, she embraced every opportunity to explore and live life fully.
Cloy graduated from Santa Cruz High School and San Jose State University where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and made life lasting friends. After graduation she taught PE in Watsonville which led her to a lifelong commitment to being fit. Cloy enjoyed local organizations such as Omega Nu, Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History, bridge, AAUW, Daisy Auxiliary and Agricultural History Project Center and Museum.
Above all Cloy treasured her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and nothing brought her more joy than time spent with her grandchildren. Cloy will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, spirit of adventure, her persimmon cookies and her famous duck dinners. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Bill, her sister Muriel Prolo, sons Grant, Bart (Priscilla), Chris, Clark (Katy) and grandchildren Joe, Jack (Madison), Ann, Tom, Phoebe, Carson, Veronica, and Benji as well as her sister-in-law Nancy, nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers Jim and Don McPherson. A special thank you to her beloved caregivers and healthcare professionals who took wonderful care of her.
A private celebration will be held on October 11, 2025. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History, Omega Nu or the Agricultural History Project.
