Joseph’s community was his sanctuary—reflected in the love of his family, the strength of his friendships, and the faith that guided his life.

Joseph Rodriguez, age 76, of Auburndale, FL, beloved father of Lauren Anne Hisey and David Solomon Rodriguez, passed away on June 1, 2025.

Born on May 18, 1949, in Kenosha, WI, to Cuban immigrants, Joseph graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He then moved to Miami, FL, where he met his wife, Cathy Douglass. After marrying, the couple moved to Loxahatchee, FL, where they raised their two children and Joseph built a successful career as a real estate appraiser. He also briefly entered politics, running for Palm Beach County Property Appraiser.

Joseph’s passion for baseball led him to a distinguished career as an umpire, officiating in many levels of play from t-ball to high school, Minor League A and AA teams, and MLB Spring Training games.  Later in life, after his divorce from Cathy, he found joy in teaching Law Studies and History, first at Royal Palm Beach High School and eventually at the opening of Seminole Ridge High School in Loxahatchee, FL. Joseph also coached the tennis teams at both high schools and spent a few years teaching English as a Second Language.

Joseph’s dedication to his Jewish faith was evident throughout his life. He played a vital role in growing the synagogues he was part of, most recently serving as President and Board Member of Temple Beth Shalom in Polk County, FL. Joseph was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge for 55 years. As a Master Mason, he served as Worshipful Master of the Gulf Stream Lodge in Lake Worth, FL, and was active in the Scottish Rite, Shriners, and DeMolay. In his thirties, he applied his skill with the cornet as a member of the Florida Shriners Drum & Bugle Corp and, during retirement, volunteered with the local Shriners Hospital.

He will be remembered most for being a devoted and present father—selling candy bars for Lauren’s Wellington High School band, driving her to debate and band competitions, building scenery, and helping out backstage at the School of the Arts, where David attended. Joseph was known throughout his community as someone you could always count on, regardless of what he was facing personally or physically. His sarcastic humor and big heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Joseph is survived by his daughter Lauren Anne and husband James with grandson Alexzander James, and his son David Solomon and wife Michelle Haewon with grandsons Caleb Jaewon and Christian Jaesung. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antinogenes Jose and Isabel Antonia.

A celebration of life was held on June 22, 2025, led by Rabbi Guyser at Temple Beth Shalom, to honor Joseph’s life and legacy. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends and the community.

Joseph’s community was his sanctuary—reflected in the love of his family, the strength of his friendships, and the faith that guided his life.
