Francis E. DeWitt
September 1st, 1925 - September 19th, 2025
Francis Edwin DeWitt, 100, of Granby, passed away September 19, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on September 1, 1925 in Holyoke, Massachusetts to the late William and Beulah (Bray) DeWitt. Francis proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the US Marine Corps, during which time he married the love of his life, Theresa, in 1951. Following his time in the service, Francis was a farmer raising livestock and selling lumber and hay. He was also employed by the Massachusetts Division of Animal Health and provided years of civic service to the town of Granby. In his retirement, he was instrumental in establishing the Southern Draft Horse Association in Florida. Besides his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa H. (Linhuber) DeWitt in 2014, their son, John DeWitt in 1969, and his siblings, William, Walter, and Giles. He will be dearly missed by his children, Barbara DeWitt Densmore of South Dartmouth, MA, Jo Ann DeWitt Lynch of Granby, MA, Clinton DeWitt and his wife Vicki of Tifton, GA, Giles DeWitt and his wife Sharon of Conway, MA, and Rollin DeWitt and his wife Jennifer of Granby, MA; by his sister, Phyllis McCoy of St. Petersburg, FL; and by his grandchildren, Heather, Stuart, Ellen, Jonathan, Stacy, Abby, Holly, and Thomas, as well as 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 4-7pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Francis' name can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital by visiting stjude.org.
