In Loving Memory

The family of Patricia “Patsy” Anne Steedly Shuler announces her peaceful passing on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

 

Patsy was born on January 31, 1939, to Mary Jane Sauls and Otis Jacob Steedly in Yemassee, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Walterboro High School Class of 1957. She went on to attend and complete Palmer Business School. She went to work at the Bank of Walterboro. She and Grover married April 3, 1960, and moved to Columbia in 1963. After her children were out of high school, she went to work for the SC Department of Revenue.

 

Patsy enjoyed quilting, reading, traveling, and anything Jimmy Buffet. She enjoyed spending time with her family at their home in Tansi Village, near Beaufort, South Carolina. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in West Columbia. There she was a member of the United Methodist Women’s group, the Quilters, and served on the Bereavement Committee for many years. 

 

Patsy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Anne Shuler and Gary Ferguson of Columbia; grandson, Christopher (Cassie) Coward of Simpsonville;  granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Blitch of Columbia; and four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Allura, Ashton, and Benji Coward; her sister, Lynn Steedly Rhode of Round O; brother-in-law, Robert (Gayle) Shuler of Bowman; sisters-in-law,  Sandra Baughman and Sally Fogler of Orangeburg. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Grover, and her son, Kelvin Cleveland Shuler of Columbia. 

 

Our deepest appreciation and thanks to The Pines of West Columbia for her love and care through most of her illness. Our thanks and appreciation to Lutheran Hospice whose care and compassion guided us towards the end. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church of West Columbia, Sistercare, Inc., PO Box 1029, Columbia, SC, 29202, or a charity of your choosing. 

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, located at 1201 Mohawk Drive, West Columbia, SC. Please wear bright, beachy, or Hawaiian colors/prints to celebrate her life. Visitation will follow the service.
