Joseph Andrew "Andy" Murray

Joseph Andrew “Andy” Murray, 68, of Greenwood, South Carolina, passed away on September 21, 2025, at Self Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 30, 1957, in Wilmington, North Carolina, the son of the late Allen L. Murray and C. Vernell Murray.

Born with cerebral palsy, Andy faced challenges with walking throughout his life, yet he never allowed them to keep him from doing the things he loved. His determination and strength of spirit were evident in the way he lived—fully, faithfully, and on his own terms.

Andy was a devoted member of Chapin Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon. His faith was central to his life and guided his service to others.

He also found great joy in the outdoors. Whether hunting or fishing, Andy embraced the peace and fulfillment that came from time spent in nature.

Andy loved his family dearly, and above all he loved the Lord with his whole heart. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of his Savior, serving with a new and whole body.

He is survived by three siblings: Roy A. Murray and wife Leilani Woods of Hertford, NC; Kathy M. Griffin and husband Jeff Griffin of Abbeville, SC; and Jeff S. Murray of Newberry, SC. He is also survived by his niece, Katie R. Ricard, and nephews David A. Murray, Matt J. Riddle, Chris R. Murray, Will A. Murray, and S. Mac Murray.

Andy will be remembered for his resilience, his devotion to faith and family, and the grace with which he faced life’s challenges.

Services to celebrate his life will be held privately among the family.
