Sophie "Pat" Bistany

Sophie Pappis Dragoni Bistany, known affectionately to many as Pat, passed away peacefully on September 23rd, 2025. She was 99 years old.

Born on October 16, 1925, in Enfield, Connecticut, Sophie was the cherished daughter of Catherine and Aris Pappis. She grew up in Yonkers, NY, where she graduated from Yonkers High School in 1943 and met the love of her life, Bertrand Dragoni. They were married in 1948 and together built a loving family. In 1966, Sophie and Bert, along with their two children, Christine Serino and James (Randy) Dragoni, moved to White Plains. Sadly, Bert passed away in 1974.

Years later, Sophie was blessed to find love once more, marrying Philip Bistany in 1981. They continued to reside in White Plains until 2014, when Phil also passed away.  For the last year and a half of her life, she found comfort and joy living with her daughter, Christine, in Garnerville, NY.

Before retiring, her last job was a legal secretary in White Plains. She enjoyed music and dancing, going to the casino and watching old movies. Above all else, Sophie's greatest joys and proudest achievements were found in her roles as a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother (“Nene”) and great-grandmother. Her life was a testament to family, love, and enduring commitment.

Sophie is predeceased by her beloved husbands, Bertrand Dragoni and Philip Bistany; her dear son, James Dragoni; her son-in-law, Daniel Serino; and her siblings, Helen, Marie, Georgia, Charles, Labor, and John.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Christine Serino, and her loving step-children, Janice (Lucky) Luckasavage, Philip (Meridith) Bistany, and Debbie (Kenny) Marshall. Sophie also leaves behind a cherished legacy in her grandchildren: Nicole (Joseph) Collins, Dana (Philip) Oliveri, Danny Serino, Danielle (Jimmy) Gatti, Anthony Dragoni, Jillian (Alan) Murphy, Keith Luckasavage, Tanya Hazzard, Lisa and Gina Bistany, and Kenny, Steven, and Bobby Marshall, as well as many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will deeply miss her presence. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday 9/28 from 2-6pm at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY. Mass of Christian Burial is going to be held Monday 9/29 at 10am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Elmsford, NY with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
