Richard "Dick" John Lorenz

Richard John Lorenz, lovingly known as Dick, was welcomed into the Lord’s presence on September 22, 2025.

Born in Faribault, Minnesota on December 5, 1937, Dick was the youngest of three children of William and Caroline Lorenz. He was raised in the Lutheran faith and attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and La Crosse State College in Wisconsin.

In high school, Dick was captain of the golf team and earned the title of Minnesota Left-Handed Golf State Champion. Though he was a candidate for a professional golf career, he chose instead to marry his high school sweetheart and soulmate-a decision he never regretted.  In 1957, Dick married Susan (Sue) Pagenkopf in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.  “Suz” was the love of Dick’s life, and he absolutely adored her.  Together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage.

Dick began his career with the Kroger Company as a produce manager in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He later joined IBM in Rochester, Minnesota, and in 1965, IBM transferred Dick and his family to Boulder, Colorado, where he served as the Order Department Manager. In 1972, Dick made the bold decision to leave the corporate world, hang up his suit and tie, and start his own company: Belmire Sprinkler & Landscaping. This career change allowed him to spend his days outdoors doing work he loved. His sons, John and David, later joined him in the business and he deeply cherished working alongside them.

Dick and Sue were blessed with four beautiful children, David, John, Sarah, and Carrie, whom he was incredibly proud of.  As a family, they enjoyed raising and breeding AKC Newfoundland and English Cocker Spaniels.  Together they traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada participating in dog shows and celebrating many championship titles.

Dick’s passions were many: golfing, camping, fishing, hunting, cheering on the Bronco’s and enjoying Sue’s music and art. He adored the great outdoors and treasured time spent with his family in their many adventures.  In retirement, Dick and Sue enjoyed 15 wonderful years spending winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona, where they were part of a close community and formed lasting friendships.  In 2020, Dick and Sue chose to simplify their life and moved to Sugar Valley Estates, an independent living community in Loveland, Colorado, where they were again blessed with many new friendships.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; their four children: David, John, Sarah (Feichtinger), and Carolyn (Lee); 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Lois Supple. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Lorenz.

Dick’s warm smile and kind demeanor were unforgettable. His life was a legacy of faith and love. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Dick truly lived out the fruits of the Holy Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control—all of which were witnessed by everyone who knew him. His faith was deep and enduring, and he enjoyed years of fellowship through Bible study.

We say goodbye, for now, to a godly man, deeply loved by his family and friends. We will miss his smile, his humor, and his quiet strength. This is a story without an ending, and we will carry on his legacy. Dick is now at rest with his Lord and Savior, free from dementia and the trials of this earthly journey.

Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life service will be held on: October 12, 2025 at 1pm at Sugar Valley Estates, Loveland, Colorado.  All who knew and loved Dick are welcome to attend.
