In Loving Memory

Thomas “Tommy” Lloyd Halcum – also lovingly known as “Paw”, passed away at the wise age of 83 on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born July 8th, 1942, in Hoxie, Arkansas. Thomas lived in Arkansas through his adolescence where he met his wife, Helen. Thomas and Helen were married in 1961 when he then set out for the military where he enjoyed a 34-year career, finally retiring as Chief Master Sargent of the United States Airforce. Thomas served in both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars.

Thomas and Helen had their child Tammie Halcum in 1964 while he was stationed at Malmstrom AFB in Montana. A few years later, Thomas was stationed at McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Columbia, South Carolina where they decided to call home and raise Tammie. Thomas lived out his life in Columbia, enjoying the range of hobbies and talents he had, such as reading, woodworking, and gardening. Thomas savored being a grandparent, Free Mason, and even enjoyed a 7-year stint with Richland County Law Enforcement.

Thomas was loved by many, and it was common for him to regularly see friends and other retired service members in public, always stopping for a chat and a handshake. Thomas enjoyed catching up with friends and loved ones in any way he could.

Thomas is survived by three grandchildren Ash Best, Jay Greene, and Victor Le and two great grandchildren Leia Greene and Lilo Greene.

Thomas did not want any funeral or memorial services to happen in his death, so the family asks that you please respect these wishes and give them space to grieve and navigate this time. There will be no official services. Thomas would prefer you to remember him through his stories and the good times he had with each friendship he made.
