Harriet Bishop McCoy

Harriett Bishop McCoy, 63, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on September 25, 2025.

Harriett is survived by her beloved husband, David, and stepdaughter, Lauren.  She also leaves behind her aunt, Ruth Bishop Limehouse; her sister-in-law, Sharon Bishop; her brothers, Jerry Bishop (Kathy) and Jeffery Bishop; her nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

Harriett was predeceased by her parents and brother, Phil Bishop.

Born on July 8, 1961, in Summerville, SC, she was the youngest daughter of Richard and Doreta Bishop. Harriett grew up in Harleyville, SC where she attended Mims Academy. She later graduated from the University of South Carolina, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. She then spent her time working as a lobbyist, an auctioneers commissioner, and later on a realtor. She was a part of the Red Hats Society and a member of Eastminister Presbyterian Church. She married her husband, David McCoy, in 1996, and they have since cherished 29 years of marriage together.

Harriett was a devoted wife, stepmom, and friend. She spent most of her time outside gardening, loving her animals, and sitting by the fire. If you knew her, you know she never met an animal she didn’t love, or a song she didn’t like. Her laughter was contagious, and she loved to look for the beauty in all things. Most of all, she was kindhearted and driven, a true farm girl at heart.

She will be missed by those that knew her and remembered by those that knew her fondly. We hope she is resting at the beach with all her animals and loved ones.

The Celebration of Life Service to honor the life of Harriett Bishop McCoy will be on October 10th, 2025, at 12pm at Eastminister Presbyterian Church.
