John A. EspositoFebruary 9, 1939 – September 29, 2025
John A. Esposito of Eagle, Idaho passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Stamford, Connecticut on February 9, 1939, John was the youngest of three children to Antonio and Angelina Esposito. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and proudly served for several years. From an early age, John followed in his father’s footsteps and became a builder—a craft he pursued with passion and integrity throughout his life.
In the late 1960s, John found joy in teaching ballroom dancing in New York City, sharing his rhythm and charm with others. It was in 1969 that he met Lexi Conger, the woman who would become the love of his life. They were married on May 27, 1972, in a warm and intimate ceremony at Lexi’s parents’ home in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 1975, John and Lexi moved to Berea, Kentucky, where John took a position as project manager for the Sherwin-Williams paint factory. After two years, they returned to Connecticut and settled in Fairfield, where they raised their two children, Joseph and Rainelle. While living in Fairfield, John was an active member of the Newtown Men’s Rod and Gun Club and coached Pop Warner football in the 1970s—always eager to share his time and talents with the community.
In the mid-1980s, John built a summer home for his family on Red Cedar Lake in Lebanon, Connecticut—a cherished retreat where weekends and summers were spent fishing, boating, and enjoying the company of family and friends.
In 1989, John and Lexi made the bold decision to move west to Eagle, Idaho. Who would have guessed that this city boy would become a country boy, complete with horses and wide-open spaces? John and Lexi shared a deep love for horses and fishing, and they embraced their new life in Idaho with joy and gratitude. John continued his building career in Idaho and became an active member of the Western Riding Club, further deepening his connection to the land and community.
John’s greatest love was his family, followed closely by food, laughter, and spending time with friends—especially over poker games and cigars. He was known for his zest for life, his infectious sense of humor, and his generous spirit. He loved to say, “I’d rather live to eat than eat to live,” and he lived that motto with gusto. Whether as a lunch buddy, a helping hand, or simply someone who made you feel special, John had a way of lighting up the lives of those around him. And yes, he always smelled like a cigar.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lexi Esposito; son, Joseph A. Esposito; daughter, Rainelle Wolf (Kevin); and two cherished granddaughters, Isabel Wolf and Sydney Wolf. With John having a large and loving extended family, he is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Angelina Esposito; brother, Joe Esposito; and sister, Annette Macari.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Operation Smile—two causes that reflect his generous heart and lifelong commitment to helping others.
