Joseph Charles Thompson, Sr.
February 21st, 1941 - September 25th, 2025
Joseph Charles Thompson, Sr, 84, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, September 25, 2025- two days after celebrating his 64th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Sandy.
“Joe” was born February 21, 1941, in Primrose, Wisconsin, a twin and youngest of four born to the late James and Kathryn (Fallon) Thompson. His youth was primarily spent in the Monroe area before moving to Cambridge and graduating from Cambridge High School in 1960.
In 1961, Joe joined the United States Navy where he proudly served his country on the USS Ranger aircraft carrier, achieving the rank of E4 Petty Officer 3rd Class (PO3). This service took him around the world including Japan, the Philippines, Cuba, and China- to name a few.
On leave, Joe returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Sandy Hanson, on September 23, 1961. This union was blessed with three children, Joseph Jr, Craig, and Tonia.
Joe worked as a produce manager in the retail grocery business for many years. He went on to be the maintenance superintendent at a private school in Madison, Wisconsin. He faithfully served there until his retirement.
Joe could easily be defined by his patriotism and faith. His love for God and his country were paramount in his life. He was also incredible at helping his family with projects and handywork around the house. Being involved with his grandchildren and attending their events brought him great joy. He also loved hanging out with and doting on his dog and loyal companion, Ringo.
Joe was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Christine Langlie and Marie Fallon; his parents, James and Kathryn; and his oldest brother, James.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy; his children, Joseph Jr. (Marjorie Budahn), Craig (Jennifer Crosby), and Tonia (Rick) Roedl; his grandchildren, Christine, Meghan, Ashley, Allison, Aaron, Shelli, Brian, and Brett; his great-children, Lonnie Kate, Grayson, Gavin, Kohana, Casen, Cooper, and Camryn; his siblings, John (Ruth) Thompson, and twin sister, Jewell Wettstein, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Nitardy Funeral Home is serving the family.
