Mary Ann Lucero, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, passed away at age 81 on Sunday September 21, 2025.

Mary Ann was born on December 18,1943, in Rowe, NM. She worked most of her adult life serving the public as a federal employee retiring from BLM in 1999. She loved her work and became dear friends with many of her coworkers. Known for her warm heart and generosity, Mary Ann touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her sense of humor, and her devotion to her family.

Mary Ann enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking delicious meals, having family get togethers, playing softball, bowling and tending to her yard. Her dedication to her family and her gentle guidance will be greatly missed. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories.

 

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Reymundo and Erinea Ortega, her husband, Rudy Lucero, her sisters, Feliz Garcia, Polly Lucero, and Sophie Spencer (Bill), and brothers, Tito Ortega (Josie), Benjamin Ortega and Fred Ortega Sr. Her brother Silviano Ortega (Nellie) joined her in death shortly after her passing.

She is survived by her children Sandy Lucero and Randy Lucero, daughter-in-law Katie Lucero, brothers, Antonio Ortega, Lorenzo Ortega and Ricardo Ortega (Geri), grandchildren, Phil Lucero (Benjamin), Monique Diaz (Raul) and Jessica Takach (Garrett), great grandchildren, Neveah Lucero, Nico Lucero, Michael Rodriquez and Viviana Rodriguez and many special nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

 

A mass will be held on Thursday October 23, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church located at 1301 Osage Ave., Santa Fe, NM 87505, after which she will be laid with her beloved husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 PM. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Fraternal Order of Police located at 3300 Calle Maria Luisa #3, Santa Fe, NM 87507 immediately after the internment.

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory.
