Elsie Annette (Malin) Hertig, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on September 29, 2025, at the age of 85. Annette was born on April 20, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the eldest daughter of Gordon Phelps Malin and Elsie Amelia (Webb) Malin. She was raised in Utah and California, where she developed a deep love for family, faith, and service—virtues inherited from her pioneer ancestors. Annette was preceded in death by her eternal companion, Robert Edward Hertig; her only son, Mark Edward Hertig; her sister, Margaret Rachel Fischer (Gary); her brother, George Heber Malin; and her parents. She is survived by her six daughters: Stephanie Warren (John), Teresa Hertig, Deborah Hefnawi (Abdel-Hadi), Michelle Draper (Darrell), Cheryl Wilkinson (Scott), and Janet Miller; her granddaughter Sophia, who lived with her for the past sixteen years; her daughter-in-law, Michelle Hertig; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Annette’s life was a testament to faith and perseverance. She came from a long line of early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including W.W. Phelps and George Jarvis, whose examples of courage and service inspired her throughout her life. Annette faced life’s challenges with determination and grace, always putting her family first. She married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Hertig on June 1, 1959, and together they raised seven children. Annette was the heart of her home, managing a busy household with love, discipline, and humor. She was known for her meticulous organization, her legendary all-day grocery trips with dad, and her devotion to her children and grandchildren. Annette served faithfully in many leadership roles in the church, including as Primary President and Relief Society President. She was a compassionate friend, a talented singer, and a dedicated servant to all in need. Annette’s legacy of faith, commitment, and grit lives on in her family and all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. And we are happy that she if finally reunited with her husband, Bob and all her family who have passed before her. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Annette’s life and honor her memory this Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:30 am, with a viewing beginning at 10:30 – 11:15 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Oakley building located at 1432 Laurel Way.
