Alice Louise Manning
December 21st, 1932 - September 28th, 2025
Alice Louise Manning, 92, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on September 28,2025. She was born on December 21, 1932, in Lovelton, Pennsylvania, to the late Helen and Walter Burgess.
Alice grew up on a dairy farm, where at the age of 13, she and her brother took on the responsibility of managing the farm after their father's passing. This experience instilled in her a tireless work ethic. In October 1954, she married the love of her life, Robert Manning. She continued her career as a nurse while he served in the Navy.
The couple eventually moved to New York and started a family. Alice devoted herself to raising their children, giving up her nursing career to do so. Her nurturing spirit led her to care for dozens of children, particularly from the teaching community. With her endless energy, she was always on the go, taking the children on walks, to swimming lessons, and down to the creek to splash in the water.
In her free time, Alice was a talented seamstress, creating clothing and quilts. She also tended to a large vegetable garden and a beautiful flower garden. She loved entertaining, hosting many parties and always offering a mug of beer to her guests. Proud of her Irish heritage, she would always wear green throughout the month of March.
Alice and Robert enjoyed many family adventures, including summer trips to Myrtle Beach and cross-country journeys in their camper. In later years, they expanded their travels to destinations around the world, with memorable trips to Ireland, Spain, Australia, Alaska, and the Holy Land.
A devout Catholic, Alice never missed Sunday Mass or a Holy Day of Obligation. She was a Eucharistic Minister and, with Robert, visited nursing homes to give communion. After retiring to Arizona, they became deeply involved with their church's bingo hall, cooking for the community twice a week for over 20 years.
Alice also loved hosting card games and planning trips to Laughlin, Nevada, for friends, complete with goodie bags for all who attended. She and Robert cherished their time with the Good Sam camping club and at the Elks Club, where they spent many nights dancing. Watching them dance was a beautiful sight; even in the later stages of her life, while battling dementia, she would dance effortlessly in her husband's arms, a testament to their enduring love.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband Robert in 2022 as well as her parents Walter and Helen Burgess, her much adored brother Billy and brothers-in laws and sister-in-law. She is survived by her 5 children, Daughter #1, as she often referred to them by Kim Davis, daughter #2 Terri (Howard) Leiber, daughter # 3 Mary (Mark) Fargnoli, daughter #4 Lynette (Scott) Wiggins and her son Tim (Lucy) Manning. Her many grandchildren Alex (Schreen) Davis, Ryne (Kendyl) Davis, Joshua (Tiffany) Lieber, Joel Lieber, Jacob (Katrina) Leiber, Nicholas (Makayla) Fargnoli, Justin (Stacey) Fargnoli, MacKenzie (Jordan) Stewart and Connor Wiggins. Along with great grandchildren, Kira, Jace, Sammy Leiber, Kennedy Marvin, Lucy Davis, Oliver and Keira Fargnoli.
She is also survived by her sisters Marlene Fuhr, Ruth DelVecchio (Ron), brothers-in-law Stewart and Eddie Manning as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gloria Gee for her wonderful and loving care of our mother over the last few years. Her kindness, attention, and friendship were a gift to our family and most importantly to mom. We also would like to thank the other caregivers that cared for mom over the last several years. Your compassion will not be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, raise a glass of beer in Alice's honor and share a laugh with someone you love. Joint services for Robert and Alice will be at the convenience of the family.
